ABOUT US
We are a community of shoppers acknowledging the harm of colonization across all space and time by giving reparations with every transaction.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Our mission is simple: giving reparations. By staying focused on this purpose, we avoid diluting the vital and important healing that is needed across the world. Every product, partnership, and distribution is rooted in this mission of repair.
For Giving Reparations, reparations means acknowledgment and redress for the historical and ongoing harms of slavery, colonization, land theft, and resource extraction. Proceeds from sales go directly toward reparations for Black and Indigenous shoppers, as well as other communities historically owed repair, including African and Romani lineages connected to enslavement, exile, or displacement.
Giving Reparations plans to distribute reparations directly to its Black and Native shoppers whenever a purchase occurs in the shop. Once we reach our goal of $5,000 raised from sale proceeds, we will launch our full reparations distribution system. At that milestone, Black and Native shoppers, along with other communities historically owed repair such as African and Romani lineages, will be able to sign up to receive reparations. A portion of every sale will then be distributed continuously through our cryptocurrency, CoinCoin, to ensure a transparent and accountable process. This way, eligible shoppers receive reparations not only when they shop themselves, but also as an ongoing benefit from the collective activity of the entire Giving Reparations community.
We source our products through relationships with Black, Indigenous, and cultural artisans who are keeping alive and carrying forward unique traditions from around the world. Our approach prioritizes ethical, small-scale, and community-based production that uplifts the people and cultures behind each item. For sacred medicines such as cedar, sweetgrass, sage, and palo santo, we source directly from Indigenous people whenever possible to honor traditional practices and strengthen the reparative connection between Native communities and their medicines. This sourcing process is an extension of our reparative mission.
Yes, we are proudly BIPOC-owned. The creator of Giving Reparations is a descendant of the Cane River Creole community and a registered member of the Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana. They carry ancestry from Ewe, Congo, Guinea, Creek, Choctaw, Caddo, Canneci Apache, and Romani lineages. Giving Reparations is rooted in a long lineage of ancestors who secured freedom for themselves and their communities, and its creator is a proud descendant of Cane River’s matriarch Marie Thérèse CoinCoin, who in the late 1700s established the gens de couleur libre — a free people of color community.
